The Department of Geosciences in Frankfurt a.M. (Germany) invites applications for a fixed-term position in Low Temperature Metamorphism (BAT IIa in the German Salary Scale; equivalent to Assistant Professor).

Initial appointment, starting in July 2009, will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for a second term of 2 years.

Doctorate in Earth Science

is required at the time of appointment. The applicant should demonstrate the existence of, or potential for developing, an internationally recognized, externally funded research program. The candidate´s research interest is open, but we prefer earth scientists who will complement our existing strengths. Applicants should have experience in the field of low temperature metamorphism and related fields and be acquainted with the use of facilities existing in Frankfurt to quantify low temperature metamorphic processes like microthermometry, vitrinite reflectancy, Raman spectroscopy and illite crystallinity. There is a whole variety of further analytical equipment in Frankfurt which can be used in the future research of the successful applicant. The position carries responsibility for teaching courses in geology and for the supervision of student research.
