'GeoEnergy', a new research association project with partners from university (Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus, BTU; Universität Potsdam UP) and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. This project will focus on carbon capture and storage, shale gas, and geothermal energy, in cooperation with industrial partners. Within the framework of reservoir exploitation the following position will be filled. The University Potsdam in collaboration with the GFZ, Section 3.2 " Geomechanics and Rheology " in Department 3 "Geodynamics" invites applications for a:


PhD position (m/f)

for the investigation of geomechanics of gas shales


Tasks:

The successful candidate is invited to perform active research on gas shales in laboratory experiments and field application.

Objectives of the programe include

  • Characterization of mechanical and hydraulic properties of gas shales
  • Investigation of the influence of proppants on long-term conductivity in gas shales
  • Examination of microfrac density and distribution and fracture healing

In the context of the project reports, scientific presentations and publications are expected to be presented.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Master's degree in rock mechanics, geotechnics, geophysics or geology
  • A strong background in rock mechanics / fracture mechanics
  • Preferably experience in experimental rock deformation
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team

Start: As soon as possible
Duration: 2 years (option of one year extension)
Working time: 19,5 hours/week
Salary: EG 13 TVöD-O
